Beach and Water Safety

Our Gold Coast beaches are world-class with kilometer’s of golden sand and fantastic swimming and surfing opportunities. But if your planning on spending some beach time on your next Gold Coast holiday it’s important to be aware of some water safety basics. (beach safety tips provided by the Gold Coast city council website)

NEVER:
Swim alone or surf at beaches not patrolled by Lifeguards or Lifesavers
Bathe outside the red and yellow flags that mark safe swimming areas
Bathe directly after a meal or under the influence of alcohol
Bathe when the beach is closed. (Observe the sign "Danger- Reserve closed to bathing" and the red flag)
Bathe when there are no safety flags
Panic if caught in a current or undertow, but raise one arm straight up and float until help arrives
Struggle if seized with a cramp, but raise one arm for help, float and keep the affected part of the body still
Go out far when a yellow flag is flying- it means the surf is dangerous
Bathe if unsure of safe conditions, but seek advice of the nearest Lifeguard
Struggle against a rip or current, but swim diagonally across it.

ALWAYS:
Swim between the red & yellow flag on patrolled beaches
Read the Flags and Safety Signs and understand what they mean before entering the water.

And, don’t forget to ‘Slip-Slop-Slap’ and drink plenty of water on those hot summer days!

New Years Eve in Broadbeach

Come along and bring in 2012 in style with spectacular fireworks displays in Broadbeach, on New Years Eve.

The fireworks will go off at the family friendly time of 8pm and then again at midnight as we say goodbye to 2011.

Kurrawa Park is a great spot to set up a picnic and enjoy the company of family and friends as you wait for the action.

There will be a host of eventing entertainment happening in Broadbeach including:

Glenn Shields, Wave Corner, 7pm-10pm.

Got ink? You just need to take a look around to see the popularity of tattoos in our society.

Tattooing has been practiced for centuries in many countries around the globe. Since the 1990’s, tattoos have become a mainstream part of global and Western fashion. This year Mattel even made a controversial move releasing a tattoo Barbie!

From January 13th to 15th 2012. You can catch the SURF n’ ink tattoo convention at the Gold Coast Convention Centre.

SURF n’ ink is a celebration of tattoo artistry, set amidst a backdrop of surf, sun and fun at one of the world’s best-loved holiday destinations, the Gold Coast.

Artists from all over the world will join Aussie ‘partners in ink’ for this popular annual event on the international tattoo convention calendar.

Over three days, see some of the best tattoo artists in the world at work. To see the artists in action and also see first-hand some of the different trends and styles from around the world.

SURF n’ Ink’s colourful, action-packed program includes tattoo competitions, seminars, piercing, body painting, art fusion, pro-wrestling, Jujitsu, Muay Thai, photo and art displays, live music and the Queensland heat of Miss Ink Australia.

Whether you have a tattoo, class yourself as a walking work of art, or just enjoy art and surf culture you won’t want to miss this one.

Elvis Birthday Bash. Friday 6th to Sunday 8th December, 2012.

January 8th is Elvis Presley’s birthday, and to celebrate Surfers Paradise will become a sensory swirl of jumpsuits, black leather, blue suede shoes and some of the 20th century’s finest rock’n’roll.

The Elvis action will be on the beach and foreshore, in the heart of Surfers and includes the invitation-only Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Competition, the ‘world series’ for Elvis tribute artists. Offstage, the handpicked finalists will also play sideshows at venues throughout Surfers Paradise. At Elvis’s Birthday Bash 'The King' will be in the buildings! This is a free event. Dreamworld Shrektacular

These holidays, Dreamworld welcomes a host of beloved characters including Shrek, Puss in Boots, Po from Kung Fu Panda, Madagascar Penguins Rico, Skipper, Kowalski and Private and many of their pals.

Join Shrek as he learns how humans celebrate the holiday season in the 20-minute Holiday Shrektacular Show, featuring song, dance and a host of characters on the specially designed Main Street stage.

The show is included in the price of the entry ticket and guests can catch one of two shows throughout the day while having their photo taken with their favourite characters.

The 20 minute show will play twice daily at Main Street. Make it a Summer to Remember with extended hours, new rides, your favourite slides and incredible creatures.

Gold Coast Chinese New Year Celebration

2012: Year of the Dragon

The Gold Coast presents the 2012 Chinese New Year Festival. The celebrations will be held over two days at various venues, showcasing over 20 performances, arts and craft stalls, lion dances, dragon dances and lots of fire crackers!

Australian Outback Spectacular

In November Australian Outback Spectacular ‘Heroes of the Light Horse’ closed its doors for the final time to make way for an exciting new show - launching December 6, 2011!

The third chapter in the Australian Outback Spectacular story will be titled ‘Spirit of the Horse’ and will celebrate the courageous spirit of the Australian horse and honor the legend that is Phar Lap.

Australian Outback Spectacular first opened in 2006, with the second show ‘Heroes of the Light Horse’ launching in September 2009 and proving a huge success. Australian Outback Spectacular has entertained millions of visitors from all over the world.
