Let's start with the coolest places to eat on the Gold Coast.

Again, the list is long however we have cut it down to the best of the best so you can get a great Gold Coast experience, awesome food and post it on instagram and feel cool doing it.

Yamagen is situated at QT Hotel Surfers Paradise. Yamagen has survived more hotel owners than you can imagine and is still one of the hottest restaurants around. The restaurant is funky japanese style, with great decor to match and an atmosphere that is cosy and cool all at the same time. They are famed for the 65 different whiskeys served however the food is what keeps us coming back. Try the Omakase menu which provides you with 8 dishes to experience so you don't miss any of the flavours. Yamagen is open for lunch and dinner. Bookings are recommended. The quickest way to get to Yamagen from The Breakers is by Glink light rail. Jump off at the Cypress Avenue stop.
Ally Chow is in Nobby Beach about 15 minutes drive from the Breakers Absolute Beachfront Apartments. A very cool place with polished concrete, black furniture and a jungle theme happening inside. Ally Chow offers delicious South East Asian dining, everything from Vietnamese to Burmese and Thai all mixed and matched to create some amazing flavours that will have you grabbing takeaway boxes. Give the crispy cauliflower and slow cooked Burmese lamb curry a go. You won’t regret it. We suggest you book at table before you head down so you don't miss out.
The Tropic is located at Burleigh Pavilion on Burleigh Heads beach. The rooftop restaurant provides million dollar views back up the coast. The Tropic has a great beach side feel that maximises the view and feels so relaxed a few cocktails down you can be there all afternoon with no worries at all. The menu is compact but has loads of small plate options. Try the Taramasalata, Fig & Persian Feta and Pistachio Mortadella with a Palms Cocktail and you will have a great experience. It’s always a good idea to book and ask for a table on the balcony.

The most convenient and great places to eat in Surfers Paradise.

Surfers Pavilion is located on the riverside of Surfers Paradise. Casual dining location overlooking the river and Chevron Island. You can even pull up on your Jetski. The menu has a good variety to choose from including favourites like chicken parmy, fish and chips, burgers and nachos as well as some modern twists like the super tasty superfood salad and wild mushroom lasagne. Open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner. While you are there grab a watermelon margarita.
Seascape Restaurant + Bar on the beachfront at Surfers Paradise offers different areas, the Bistro, the Restaurant, the Bar and the rooftop. The views across Surfers Paradise Beach with floor to ceiling windows makes any dining experience at Seascape worthwhile. The restaurant is more fine dining without the price tag. Try the prawn and bug salad for a delicious main course and we can't go past the peanut butter parfait for dessert. It’s a good idea to book online before reading down there.
Beachfront Dining at The Paradise Centre opened a few years ago and offers 7 casual indoor/outdoor dining options including Wahlburgers, El Camino Cantina and La Playa. There is definitely something for everyone and the atmosphere is fantastic. Open 7 days for lunch and dinner the spot offers great people watching and beach watching.

These are worth the effort dining experiences on the Gold Coast.

Etsu Izakaya is a hidden gem. Located behind a huge white wooden sliding door it looks more like the entrance to an old warehouse then it does to a sensational gourmet experience of Japanese flavours. The restaurant is a long skinny space with warm colours, great lighting and an even better atmosphere. It’s a great place for family and friends to share meals and have a new experience together. The bug tempura is a must, teriyaki salmon and a fried chicken. Do yourself a favour and book a table.
Eddie & Wolff is a tiny little restaurant with a big reputation situated at Robina, which is a 20 minute drive from the Breakers Absolute Beachfront Apartments. Only opened recently this restaurant is renowned for its amazing flavours based on a 48 hour simmering bone broth whose recipe has been handed down for generations. Vietnamese blended with a multitude of tastes from a family here and in Vietnam. Try the Baby Pho and Chargrilled King Prawns.
Roy's By Gemelli is tucked away in Sorrento, just 10 minutes drive from The Breakers Absolute Beachfront Apartments. Roy’s is a casual alfresco dining experience with an amazing Italian menu and a wine cellar to match. Perfect for the entire family with great kids menu options. It’s licensed and BYO if you prefer. Loads of gluten free and dairy free options available too. The staff here provide great service and you are always guaranteed a good night. Ensure you book first, inside or outside all the tables are good.
Orzo at Broadbeach is one of our absolute favourites. A small street side contemporary Italian restaurant with a sensational menu, great wines and passionate staff. The perfect restaurant for a boozy lunch, date night or just to pop in on the way home from a day sightseeing. Bookings are suggested for Fridays & weekends.
Kiyomi at The Star Gold Coast is all about innovative and creative Tokyo flavours that provide you with a one of a kind Japanese food experience. It’s an intimate high end restaurant. Getting a table is not easy so book ahead. Situated at The Star Gold Coast the best way to get to Kiyomi is via the G Link light rail.

Illusions Magic Show with Matt Hollywood

Matt Hollywood is a comedic, magician that sure knows how to entertain. Illusions is a traditional magic show with loads of great tricks and lots of laughs. It’s ideal for everyone, especially families with young kids all the way up to multi generational families or groups of friends.

Located at Sanctuary Cove, the show is only on weekends, but is worth the drive and parking is easy. Head to Illusions website for more information.

Australian Outback Spectacular

A great family friendly experience. Enjoy a traditional style 3 course dinner and show. Australian Outback Spectacular is an arena style show with horses, lights and projections that tells an Australian story with loads of character and history. The kids, the grandparents and everyone will love this night out.

Surfers Paradise

When it comes to family friendly night time entertainment, surfers paradise has everything you need for a great night out.

Slingshot is located on Cavill Avenue and offers a daredevil style ride where you will be flung into the sky at 160 km/hour. Get the adrenaline flowing with this fun and slightly frightening experience. Open every night till late. There is a height restriction of 125cm. Freak Surfers Paradise is a virtual reality 4D game experience located on the top floor of the Paradise Centre. Take reality to a new level. This experience allows you to walk through alternate universes, get out of virtual escape rooms, shoot everything with a virtual laser tag game and laugh with virtual arcade games. Infinity Attraction is a light and laser maze experience that will stretch your brain beyond reality. It’s interactive and an experience the whole family will enjoy. Recommended for 8+ years old. Open from 10am to 10pm and in holiday times possibly later. Located in the Chevron renaissance shopping centre. Head to the Infinity website for more information and tickets.

Timezone, Australia’s biggest arcade experience with bowling, mini golf, laser tag, bumper cars and hundreds of arcade style games for everyone in the family. Dracula's Cabaret Restaurant

Dracula’s is a household name on the Gold Coast. Australia's longest running and most visited theatre restaurant continually delights, horrifies, and entertains people from all over the world. The team there have been entertaining and shocking guests for more than 30 years. The dinner theatre is an experience you must do on the Gold Coast.

The shows are all MA 15+ and are perfect for those who want a delicious 3 course meal, drinks, a fun and often shocking show as well as awesome music. Open 5 nights a week there are different prices for midweek and weekend.

The venue is in central Broadbeach, opposite Pacific Fair and a short walk from the G:Link Light rail stop.

The Pink Flamingo

Is a fantastic Spiegel Club located in the heart of Broadbeach showing up to 3 different productions at any one time.

Now we know you are asking what’s a spiegel club? It’s a permanent version of a spiegel tent, a large travelling tent, constructed from wood and canvas and decorated with mirrors and stained glass, intended as an entertainment venue.

The Pink Flamingo is fitted out in an art deco 1920s style. It feels sophisticated and loads of fun. The club offers fantastic shows from sexy cabaret to Cirque du Soleil style shows with great music, amazing internationally acclaimed acts and so much entertainment it’s inconceivable this venue is in downtown Broadbeach. The venue is for 18+.

Gold Coast Beaches & Beach Walks

The Gold Coast Beaches are famous for the surf, swimming and of course great walks, so we have put together a list of our favourite walks and some info on our favourite beach too.

The beaches are patrolled by Gold Coast City Council and Surf Life Saving Queensland.

27 beaches, including Surfers Paradise are patrolled on a year round basis
41 are patrolled between September and May

We have so many beautiful beaches however many are subject to rips, currents, tides and unsafe swimming conditions. Before you get in the water make sure you swim between the flags. Also check the Gold Coast City Council webpage for information on which beaches are open and closed.

Surfers Paradise Beach

The most famous of all Gold Coast beaches, probably because it’s one of the largest and most popular with more than 100,000 people hitting the sand every year.

Surfers Paradise Beach is probably best as a swimming location these days. Make sure you swim between the red and yellow flags which indicate that the beach is patrolled.

Surfers Paradise Beach has 6 patrolled lifeguard towers:

Wharf Road – patrolled between 8am and 5pm every day all year round.
Thornton Street and Garfield Terrace at Northcliffe Surf Life Saving Club – patrolled between 8am and 5pm every day all year round.
Clifford Street – patrolled between 8am and 5pm on weekends all year round.
The Esplanade (end of Cavill Avenue) – patrolled between 8am and 5pm every day all year round.
The Esplanade (end of Elkhorn Avenue) – patrolled between 8am and 5pm every day all year round.
The Esplanade (end of Staghorn Avenue) – patrolled between 8am and 5pm every day all year round.

Gold Coast Beach Walks

Burleigh to Miami. Parking in Miami is probably easier than in Burleigh. It’s about 5 km return, there is one mega hill which has one of the best views on the Gold Coast. This walk can be really busy on weekends.

Surfers to Broadbeach on the new ocean way walk is awesome. The full length is about 5 km return and the good news is it is all flat. No hills and loads of great places stop for a quick selfie or family pic.

Main Beach to The Spit. Depending on where you start it is about 10 km return and all flat on pathways. This is a nice bike ride too if you are keen.

Around Doug Jennings Park at The Spit and along the Seaway Wall. This area was redeveloped during COVID and is now a great space that Gold Coasters just love. If you did the entire circuit it is about 2 km return and just the way we like it, it’s all flat.

Broadwater Parklands, Southport. Why not walk the length of the parkland? It’s all flat, along the water and has great paths for walking, running scooters and bikes. If you have time, pop into Catalina Cafe for a coffee and their amazing carrot cake.

Tallebudgera Beach to Tallebudgera Creek - This is a gorgeous walk, start down the Palm beach end of Tallebudgera Beach and walk up to the creek. Dip your feet in and walk across the bridge too. Depending on where you start it is about 2.2 km return. If you get hungry, pop into the Custard Canteen for a coffee and snack.

Surfers to Narrowneck is one of our absolute favourites. Often not as busy as Surfers to Broadbeach. Stay on the Esplanade side and walk right up to Narrowneck, cross over and wander around MacIntosh Park, spot a peacock or two. The walk is only about 3 km return and all flat.

Gold Coast Shopping & Markets

The Gold Coast has several large shopping centres that are easily accessible by light rail, car or bus from the Breakers.

Pacific Fair, Hooker Boulevard, Broadbeach

Pacific Fair is located at Broadbeach is one of the major shopping centres on the Gold Coast with many major retail stores such as Myer, BIG W, Kmart, Target, David Jones and Coles.

In addition, there are over 400 specialty stores including retail outlets, banks, medical services, hairdressers, beauticians, cafes and the post office. Pacific Fair also has cinemas, loads of restaurants and some great outdoor spaces to discover. Most Shops are open from 9am to 5pm daily, with late night shopping on a Thursday night till 9pm.

Australia Fair, Southport

Australia Fair is located just 5 minutes north of Surfers Paradise is another major shopping centre. Australia Fair offers a huge range of shopping with over 220 specialty stores including banks, plus Kmart, Diaso and Event Cinemas.

Best way to get to Australia Fair by light rail.

Harbour Town Premium Outlets, Brisbane Road, Biggera Waters

Harbourtown is a large outdoor brand outlet centre with more than 240 stores.

Here you can purchase goods at up to 60% LESS than you would anywhere else! Some of the most popular stores are;

HarbourTown also has a great array of supermarkets, food stores, restaurants, cafes as well as cinemas. So it’s an easy place to spend the day and make some great purchases.

Harbour Town is easily accessed via taxi, uber, bus or HarbourTown free shuttle bus services from Surfers Paradise or Broadbeach Convention Centre.

Robina Town Centre, Robina Town Centre Dr, Robina

Robina Town Centre is located off the M1 and is the ultimate shopping, dining, leisure and entertainment destination on the Gold Coast.

This shopping centre has over 400 specialty stores, including 150 fashion stores so the perfect place to pick up a great outfit, some new swimmers and anything else your wardrobe needs.

Robina Town Centre also has loads of great restaurants and cafes as well as cinemas, and an entertainment precinct for the kids. .

To get to Robina, a car is the easiest, however you can also get the train, uber and buses.

Street Shopping

Cavill Avenue, Surfers Paradise

Surfers Paradise is the hub of street shopping with so many options to eat, drink, for shopping and entertainment all just a stones throw from the beautiful Surfers Paradise Beach.

Cavill Avenue is a pedestrian mall with a range of cafes, restaurants and attractions interspersed by retail outlets. On one side of Cavill Mall is the Paradise Centre with approximately 40 speciality stores and loads of entertainment options including Timezone.

Cavill Lane runs under the Hilton Hotel between Surfers Paradise Boulevard and The Esplanade and offers fantastic cheap eats and a handful of stores.

Finally there is Chevron Renaissance Shopping Centre with Cafes, restaurants, Coles and about 15 specialty shops.

Shops trade 7 days per week and during peak holiday times are open late each night.

James Street, Burleigh

James Street Burleigh is a great mix of beachside stores, boutiques, second hand stores, cafes and food outlets. Parking can be a little busy, it's worth the effort to wander along the street browsing or sitting in a street side cafe and watching the world go by.

Most of the on street parking around Burleigh Heads and Burleigh beach is paid so just ensure you check the signs before leaving your car.Alternatively the bus runs down the Gold Coast Highway, departing from the Broadbeach South interchange, in front of Pacific Fair.

The BrickWorks, Ferry Road, Southport

The Brickworks on Ferry Road is a hive of activity in Southport. This shopping village has some great stores and of course great food to go with it. Parking can be a little tricky but just be patient as there are always people coming and going.

The highlight shopping wise has to be TK Maxx with a massive range of clothing, luggage, gifts and toys up to 70% off.

For those who are more environmentally conscious head to Biome, all products are sustainable, recycled or upcycled.

There is a fresh food market - The Standard Market Company who offer a beautiful range of seafood, meats, fruit and vegetables as well as grocery items.

Marina Mirage, Main Beach

Built in the 1980s in the midst of the 5 Star hotels, Marina Mirage is known for its high end stores and fabulous restaurants. Today is more open to everyone who wants to relax and enjoy a browse through the brands and couture boutiques. The area has a relaxed and enjoyable vibe, the cafes are great and the restaurants including La Luna are worth it. Our favourite is Glass Dining & Lounge Bar situated on the waterfront overlooking the boats and Broadwater. The Barramundi is very tasty.

Gallery Walk, Mount Tamborine

Situated on top of Mount Tamborine, Gallery Walk is a mix of art and craft stores, boutiques, souvenir stores and food outlets. It’s a beautiful environment to wander in and out of all the stores surrounded by rainforest and beautiful views.

On either end of Gallery Walk there are experiences to be had. Some of the most popular are alcohol related and offer a great story as well as some nice purchases. Check out Tamborine Mountain Distillery, Fortitude Brewing Company

Gold Coast Markets

The Village Markets, Burleigh Heads

These markets are an incubator for new creative businesses on the Gold Coast. The market organiser encourages creativity, collaboration and a great vibe.

Many vintage, secondhand and up cycled goods are sold here along with loads of food, coffee and fresh fruit and vegetables.

Held on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month the markets are worth a visit if you are on the Gold Coast. Check website for more details. If you are not don't worry because The Village Markets offers a digital platform you can purchase from as well.

HOTA Farmers & Artisan Markets, Bundall

These are definitely a favourite. Accessible from the Breakers by foot about 25 minutes, otherwise catch the Light Rail / G Link to Surfers Paradise and walk across the HOTA green bridge, By car or by HOPO Ferry.

These markets are all about food, open every Sunday 6am to 11.30am. Make it a breakfast or brunch date. There are bakers, Gluten free and vegan, sweets and savoury, Metas cured and cooked, fresh fruits and Vegetables, coffees, freshly squeezed juices, international foods and a great array of entertainers too.

Surfers Paradise Beachfront Market

Set up along the beach side Esplanade of Surfers Paradise, the markets operate Friday and Saturday 4pm to 9pm showcasing local creative arts, the Gold Coast’s most unique characters, souvenirs and live music. They are worth a look and we are sure you will find some entertainment value and a few unique purchases along the way.

Carrara Markets

The Gold Coast’s largest market with a mix of indoor and outdoor stalls. This is a permanent market open 8am to 3pm Saturday and Sundays with fresh fruit and vegetable stalls, handmade gifts, garden and plants, toys, games and collectables.
